About Marcus

How a consultant became Singapore’s creative thinking advocate

The Turning Point

Marcus discovered his passion for creative thinking methodology while working as a management consultant at a boutique strategy firm in Singapore’s financial district. He realized something fundamental was missing — most organizations had no structured approach to innovation. They had great people, solid strategies, but when it came to actually solving novel problems? Stuck.

Building the Framework

He transitioned into education in 2015, partnering with SUTD to develop their first design thinking bootcamp curriculum. What started as a single program has since trained over 1,500 students and professionals. The work wasn’t just about teaching theory — it was about creating structured methods that actually work in real project environments. That’s when things got interesting.

The Startup Hub Connection

His breakthrough moment came when he established the lateral thinking exercises program at Block71. He watched startup teams struggle with the same problems — not lack of ambition, but lack of systematic ways to approach creative problem-solving. He built a framework that transformed how teams ideate, test, and iterate. At NTU, he collaborates with the School of Art, Design and Media to integrate creative thinking into their innovation programs.

What Drives Him

What really energizes Marcus is witnessing the moment when individuals unlock their creative potential. When lateral thinking shifts from an abstract concept to an actual toolkit they can use. He’s convinced that structured creativity isn’t an oxymoron — it’s the bridge between raw imagination and implementable solutions. That philosophy underpins everything MindSpark Labs does.
